About the role

The Secondary MTSS Specialist leads, implements, and supports Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) in both the middle and high schools of Hastings Public Schools ISD 200. The position serves as the district AVID Coordinator and utilizes best practices and high-yield strategies within evidence-based programming to build the infrastructure and capacity for an academic, behavioral, social, and emotional MTSS framework.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance and direct support to schools
  • Conduct asset mapping and recommend plans for MTSS infrastructure
  • Utilize existing school and district resources to enhance comprehensive services and supports
  • Develop data systems and collection methods
  • Identify professional development and training opportunities
  • Implement culturally responsive supports and strategies
  • Use a data-driven process to identify evidence-based programming needs
  • Recognize needs related to trauma-informed care and mental health literacy
  • Implement school and district MTSS protocols, tiered supports, and services

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in educational field
  • Licensed by the State of Minnesota to teach at the assigned grade level and academic area
  • Prior experience with AVID preferred
  • Relevant experience to position
  • K-12 Administrative licensure (preferred)
  • Ability to determine, prioritize, schedule, and complete complex job assignments and projects without supervision and within the time allocated
  • Ability to operate independently and effectively while following established procedures and protocols
  • Ability to anticipate and/or recognize problems and/or complications and to determine and implement practical corrective solutions to problems and issues
  • Ability to work with racially, culturally and economically diverse populations of students and families
  • Ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills when completing unique or complex job assignments
  • Ability to determine what is confidential and proprietary information and how to use that information in a proper manner
  • Ability to communicate positively about the school district at all times

Professional Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the fidelity of implemented interventions and use progress-monitoring data to recommend adjustments
  • Lead the facilitation of regular, data-driven multi-disciplinary team meetings (e.g., intervention review teams) at both the middle and high school levels
  • Coach and mentor classroom teachers on Tier 1 differentiated instruction strategies and Tier 2/3 progress monitoring tools
  • Display positive leadership and make substantial contributions at both the building and district level on projects, initiatives, and curriculum improvement
  • Seek out professional development opportunities and apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs
  • Collaborate with others to improve professional practice and student achievement
  • Care for assigned district resources, equipment, and materials and report concerns regarding facility and equipment to designated supervisors
  • Understand and practice School Board policies and adhere to federal and state laws that apply to his/her job assignment
  • Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the building principal or district administrator
  • Proven success working collaboratively with other employees, supervisors, parents, and students
  • Exemplary written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Other duties as assigned

Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range per the 2025-2027 Teacher Master Agreement: $51,970 - $93,753
