About the role

Prepare project planning including work scopes, responsible matrix, manhours and softwares, interface matrix. Prepare Master Document List (MDL) for overall piping design related work scopes with forecast dates based on Master Project Schedule. Align the piping design input data and need dates with respective stakeholders to define piping design output forecast dates. Review and monitor project budget related to piping, especially for manhour and software utilization, exotic and high-cost material purchase, warehouse balance material utilization, etc.

Lead a group of piping engineers and designers for project execution or monitor the work executed by engineering design houses where applicable. Review and monitor engineering design progress related to piping work scopes. Prepare and raise technical queries (TQF) and engineering variation orders (EVO) related to piping for additional work scopes. Align the piping design output (such as piping isometric drawing, pipe spool drawing, etc) with construction teams to ensure all the information required by construction teams are incorporated.

Understand department and project specific design workflows. Understand contract specifications and project requirements summary. Understand class and regulatory requirements, piping, special item and valve material specifications. Understand P&ID and piping routine requirements. Understand equipment layout plans (including escape routes, maintenance spaces, mechanical handling, other equipment). Understand non-piping design related requirements such as fabrication, erection, painting, QA/QC, testing and commissioning. Responsible for ensuring that all works meet scope and technical quality of the project and comply with project requirements.

Monitor P&ID revisions and ensure compliance between piping 3D model with latest P&ID. Monitor design input need dates and data required to execute the piping design works. Monitor 3D model clashes and design review comments/punch lists. Monitor comments from clients and classification societies. Monitor all the piping related interface points. Monitor all the hotwork, tank’s coating and drydocking related activities where applicable. Monitor piping procurement status and surplus materials due to drawing revisions. Monitor all hold items affecting piping design completeness. Monitor and control the development of piping weights. Ensure proper communication and workflow are well established between piping stress team with pipe routine and pipe support designer teams. Closely monitor compliance between piping 3D model with the latest pipe stress analysis reports.

Review and comment on piping arrangements, isometric and pipe supports drawings from piping designers. Review and comment on piping calculations carried out by other piping engineers/subcontractors (e.g., pipe stress analysis report, flow master report, surge analysis report). Review and comment on technical proposals from vendors. Review and comment on vendor certified documents (VCD).

Monitor and control drawing revisions especially when construction has already started. Ensure proper communication and workflow are well established between piping designing team with construction team. Monitor compliance between piping construction drawings (piping isometric and pipe support drawings) with the latest 3D model. Monitor the completeness of the piping design database (such as 3D model attributes, etc) to meet project Digital Engineering requirements.

Interface with vendors, other discipline leads, procurement, production, commissioning. Onboard vessels to conduct inspections at sites. Provide support to piping construction, QA/QC, and other non-engineering design-related activities such as inspections, coatings, painting, welding, test packages, etc.
