Position Description

Responsible for coil oven prep, bake oven operations, and topcoat operations for the crane line electrocoat process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily safety and operational checks of bake oven and paint spray booth and related spray painting equipment (plural component system and pressure pots).
  • Operate forklift and crane for oven/paint cart and load bar handling requirements.
  • Inspect e-coat on coils for signs of incomplete paint coverage prior to oven baking. Notify supervision or quality control if questionable areas are observed.
  • Remove ground cables, caps, and plugs from coils/load bars in preparation for oven bake.
  • Inspect coils for damage to hairpins/u-bends, headers, and fins.
  • Inspect coil openings for signs of paint in coils and blow plant compressed air through coils to check for presence of paint in coil.
  • Inspect ground cables and clamps for signs of damage or wear. Bring ground cables to cable cleaning bath. Bring damaged cables to the maintenance department for repair.
  • Responsible for bake oven operations including proper fan/blower operation, proper temperature and time setting for the bake oven, and proper operation of the oven exhaust/scrubber system.
  • Responsible for proper spray booth operation including fan/blower operation, manometer checks for proper spray booth air flow, daily dew point temperature checks, replacement of the spray booth filters as needed, proper application of topcoat paint, and proper operation and basic maintenance of the plural component spray system and pressure pots.
  • Update CPD to ensure proper application of required topcoat.
  • Maintain topcoat paint inventory and supplies in neat, orderly manner. Advise supervision of problems, low inventory levels, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Qualifications

  • Must be able to work any shift, overtime, and/or weekends as required.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of twelve months experience as a Spray Paint/Oven Operator I and/or equivalent related experience.
  • Ability to speak, read and write English. Ability to read and interpret documents such as work and safety instructions, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to fill out production paperwork accurately and completely.
  • Ability to understand percentages, ratios, and operating statistics.
  • Ability to look at practical situations for signs of danger, improper procedures, hazards, etc. Understanding of proper coating, oven bake, and spray paint application to insure quality standards are met.
  • Basic data entry.
