Tooling Engineer

Job Summary

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Design, develop, and maintain tools, dies, molds, and fixtures used in manufacturing and production processes.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, new product development, and quality teams to ensure tooling meets product specifications.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and cost analyses for new tooling projects or modifications.
  • Evaluate and select tool steel types, components, and suppliers for projects.
  • Oversee the installation, setup, and calibration of tooling equipment in the production environment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to tool wear, defects, or malfunctions to minimize production downtime.
  • Implement initiatives to optimize tooling efficiency, durability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including drawings, specifications, and maintenance procedures.
  • Provide technical support, training, and information to production staff regarding proper tool use and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure compliance with government regulations, safety standards, and company procedures while staying updated on industry trends through professional networks and publications.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Proficient in SolidWorks.
  • Ability to review part designs and offer input related to moldings.
  • Ability to review, interpret, and evaluate company documents.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks for multiple projects.
  • Ability to perform under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and as a positive, collaborative team player.
  • Maintains a professional disposition and demonstrates leadership capabilities that support company goals.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and proper handling of tools and machinery.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering and/or minimum of 5 years working within the plastic injection molding industry, tooling, processing, and design.
  • Thorough understanding of injection molds and injection molding processes.
  • Solid computer skills, including email, Word, and Excel.
  • Solid understanding of safe work practices and OSHA.
  • Previous experience with CNC machining, welding, plate cutting, fixtures, tooling, weld jigs, ISO systems, and CNC programming.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to participate in activities requiring extended time spent in any area of the facility including the ability to lift, climb, kneel, and stand.
  • Requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
