The Tooling Engineer 2 (TE2) has an in-depth knowledge of cutting tools, toolholders, workholding, and other machine tool specific industrial supplies. The TE2 sees the world through the lens of a customer, both the shop owner/foreman and the front-line machine operator in order to provide superb technical support to clients, whether online, via e-mails, and/or in person. This uniquely broad perspective makes the TE2 invaluable in tooling/workholding product development for Haas.
Responsibilities
- Perform Sample Review Tests of cutting tools and workholding for form, fit, and function, and thoroughly document it.
- Utilize CAD software to develop 2D blueprints and/or 3D solid models of tooling and workholding.
- Create technical details, such as feed/speed calculators and usage guides.
- Analyze technical material, such as schematic diagrams or engineering drawings, and work with management personnel to develop standards for new product development.
- Create new part numbers and specifications of e-commerce tooling.
- Provide technical support for tooling and workholding to end users.
- Collaborate with marketing, product development, and manufacturing departments to provide product recommendations.
- Keep abreast of developments in the Tooling industry by expanding networks and attending events.
- Prepare or assist in preparing scripts for videos in support of tooling and workholding.
- Develop prototypes and testing of new designs.
- Perform Excel and VBA programming tasks as needed.
- Carry out quality assurance tests on new designs.
- Provide training to junior Tooling Engineers.
- Follow instructions, procedures, and escalate any issue impacting workflow, quality, etc.
- Exhibit honesty and integrity as well as demonstrate adherence to rules, procedures, and policies.
Requirements
- BS in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering.
- Must be able to operate and program CNC machines; Haas most preferred.
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of cutting tools and workholding.
- Intermediate knowledge of CNC machine tools.
- Advanced experience using CAD and SolidWorks software.
- Intermediate experience using SAP.
- Ability to complete projects on time and to specification.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical skills.
- CAM experience that is up to date with current software.
- Intermediate experience with VBA and Python programming.
- Intermediate robotics knowledge.
- Travel up to 5%.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS/BFA/BSA) from a four-year college or university is required, plus additional related experience, training, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Preferred majors: Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering.
- Minimum 2-4 years of experience.
