Tool Specialist
About the role
Responsible for ordering tools, supplying projects with appropriate tools needed, assuring tool returns and calling for tools to be sent back to the shop from field projects. Ensures tool inventory numbers are accurate and appropriately accounted for and that the high quality of tools and equipment are maintained, in alignment with all Company policies, procedures, key objectives and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Accurately fills tool orders from the warehouse; inspects quality, organizes, and stages tools for delivery.
- Communicates well with project managers and other co-workers to ensure appropriate tools have been purchased, received, ordered, and filled.
- Manages and inventories all tools and equipment.
- Inventories consumable materials and assists in annual tool inventories.
- Utilizes computerized inventory system.
- Creates schedules for tool/equipment deliveries and pick-ups from project job sites.
- Limits tool losses by locating tools from project sites not being utilized, including on-going projects to fill back orders.
- Aids in necessary tool purchases, providing completed purchase orders and submitting to accounts payable, per agreed-upon Company procedures.
- Loads and unloads tools on and off delivery trucks, and audits job sites for tool recovery prior to job completion.
- Safely operates forklift as needed.
- Safeguards proper tool usage.
- Cleans, maintains, repairs, and organizes warehouse tools.
- Restocks inventory items in the warehouse as needed.
- Ships and receives packages via UPS daily.
- Minimizes delivery costs whenever possible.
- Consistently makes decisions in an attentive and safe manner to ensure the safety and health of self and others.
- Utilizes LEAN concepts or other continuous improvement methodologies to ensure the most efficient operations, processes, and activities.
- Promotes and models the Company mission, vision and values through exercising sound and ethical business practices, championing all elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and providing high quality services and programs as they relate to clients, subcontractors, co-workers, suppliers, and the public.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Associate degree or equivalent work experience in mechanical engineering or a related field preferred.
- Minimum 1-3 years of experience working with tools or schedules in a construction warehouse environment.
- Knowledge of the electrical construction industry preferred.
- Experience safely driving and operating a forklift.
- Previous experience using computerized inventory systems preferred.
- Knowledge of current regulations through MN DOT and MSHA. MN DOT certification preferred.
- Basic training, experience, and skills in project management. Understanding of the project life cycle.
- Knowledge and work experience with LEAN concepts and methodologies.
