About the role
The Tool Room Attendant will specialize in operating one or more types of machine tools to machine metal for use in making or maintaining jigs, fixtures, cutting tools, gauges, or metal dies or molds used in shaping or forming metal or nonmetallic material.
Responsibilities
- Operating one or more types of machine tools to machine metal for use in making or maintaining jigs, fixtures, cutting tools, gauges, or metal dies or molds used in shaping or forming metal or nonmetallic material.
- Planning and performing difficult machining operations which require complicated setups or a high degree of accuracy.
- Setting up machine tools or tools, including installing cutting tools and adjusting guides, stops, working tables, and other controls to handle the size of stock to be machined.
- Determining proper feeds, speeds, tooling, and operation sequence or selecting those prescribed in drawings, blueprints, or layouts.
- Making necessary adjustments during machining operations to achieve requisite dimensions to very close tolerances.
- Selecting proper coolants and cutting and lubricating oils.
- Recognizing when tools need dressing and dressing tools.
- Using a variety of precision measuring instruments.
Requirements
- Education: Successful completion of high school is preferred.
- Experience: Experience working in a tool and parts distribution role of a similar scope and size is preferred.
- Physical Abilities: Skills such as walking, running, climbing, crawling, jumping and other similar physical activities are required.
- Environmental Conditions: The worker must be able to endure extreme climate conditions and work in an outdoor setting.
Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge of machine shop and tool room practice usually acquired through considerable on-the-job training and experience.
Pay
VTG's base pay range is $21.98 per hour.
