Tool Room Assistant / Attendant

About the Role

The Tool Room Assistant maintains the security of the tool room inventory and manages the check-in and check-out of tools and equipment to students and faculty. This role ensures inventory levels are maintained, tools are in good working condition, and the tool room is clean and well-organized.

Responsibilities

  • Issues and receives all tools and consumables to students and faculty.
  • Verifies all tools are accounted for before and after each shift.
  • Notifies instructors and the supervisor of discrepancies in the check-in/out process.
  • Maintains tools in working order, repairing or servicing broken/worn tools, and removing or replacing nonfunctional tools/equipment.
  • Assists with requisitioning and acquiring new tools and equipment.
  • Maintains up-to-date inventory records.
  • Keeps the tool room clean and well-organized at all times.
  • Handles shipping and receiving of inventory, equipment, and consumables.
  • Maintains effective loss prevention systems to ensure the security of all assigned company assets.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Diploma in a related trades field from an academic institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Working knowledge of tools.
  • Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform job duties, including heavy lifting.
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • 1-3 years of inventory control experience.
  • 1-3 years of related trade experience.
  • 1-3 years of loss prevention experience.

  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
