About the role

PennEngineering is seeking a motivated individual to join our Tool Room as a Tool Maker B. You’ll collaborate with teams that do truly amazing things in manufacturing and engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Progress and develop into an "A" Tool Maker.
  • Independently perform the job of tool maker "A/B" in its entirety with minimal assistance, operating all department machines and any specialty machines as assigned:
    • Milling Machine
    • Lathes
    • Centerless Grinder
    • Surface Grinder
  • Work from complex ideas, drawings, sketches, blueprints, and verbal instructions using micrometers, vernier calipers, calculators, indicators, protractors, etc., to produce desired parts or results.
  • Provide and use own basic measuring tools.
  • Obtain instructions, sketches, drawings, etc., from lead person/foreman.
  • Obtain raw material from department stock.
  • Set up any department machine as needed to produce work with very close tolerances.
  • Produce first piece and verify all dimensions for accuracy against drawings or sketches.
  • Produce subsequent pieces to exacting tolerances and specifications, checking each for adherence to strict quality standards.
  • Fit and assemble parts as required.
  • Detect and report faulty machine operation, defective material, drawing discrepancies, or other unusual conditions to foreperson.
  • Replenish raw material stock as used.
  • Replace or re-sharpen cutting tools as required.
  • Perform final inspection and deliver tools to the next workstation.
  • Maintain machine and workplace area in a neat and orderly condition daily, including weekly general cleanup.
  • Keep machines free of chips.
  • Complete required paperwork, including routers, pick slips, and inspection reports.
  • Collaborate closely with foreperson to exchange information pertinent to the work.
  • Observe all safety regulations in all duties.
  • Maintain all tool room machines in proper working order.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Tool & Die Makers Certificate or a minimum of 2-3 years of Tool Room experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Visual acuity for detailed work.
  • Ability to stand for a minimum of 8 hours per day.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 30-40 lbs, from floor to waist.
