Tool & Die Apprentice (All Shifts)

Located close to the Michigan/Ohio border, Toledo Tool & Die has diligently served the people of both states since 1940. Founded on the principle of delivering the finest work possible for our clients, we now operate three facilities in the Toledo area and one in Pioneer, Ohio.

About the role

This is a full-time Tool & Die Maker Apprentice position based in Pioneer, Ohio. You will support our continued growth while learning and progressing through a structured apprenticeship program.

Schedule

• 1st shift: Monday – Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM
• 2nd shift: Monday – Friday, 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM
• 3rd shift: Sunday – Thursday, 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM

Must be available to work overtime (daily, weekend, and some holidays). Shift rotation occurs every 6 months to gain experience with different leaders. Shift assignment may change once the apprenticeship is complete.

Pay

Starting pay: $20/hour with shift premiums ($1.50 for 2nd shift, $1.00 for 3rd shift). Weekly pay.

Wage Schedule:

• Step 1: 0–1,000 hours – $20.00/hour
• Step 2: 1,001–2,000 hours – $22.25/hour
• Step 3: 2,001–3,000 hours – $24.50/hour
• Step 4: 3,001–4,000 hours – $26.75/hour
• Step 5: 4,001–5,000 hours – $29.00/hour
• Step 6: 5,001–6,000 hours – $31.25/hour
• Step 7: 6,001–7,000 hours – $33.50/hour
• Step 8: 7,001–8,000 hours – $35.75/hour
• Journey Wage: $38.00/hour

Responsibilities

• Learn to troubleshoot and repair dies in the press and/or on the bench
• Progress as outlined in the apprenticeship program
• Brainstorm improvements in tooling and plant processes
• Learn to set up and operate tool room equipment including drill press, drill lathe, mill, and grinder
• Assist with die setting activities
• Take direction from managers, leaders, and experienced tool & die co-workers; acquire skills for each 1,000-hour assessment
• Assist in implementation of continuous improvement activities
• Complete all required documentation (paperwork and computer), including last-off reports, die maintenance reports, and mis-hit reports
• Responsible for the safety, cleanliness, and orderliness of the tool room and presses; support 5S, health & safety, and environmental initiatives
• Learn to remove, repair, and install all die sections that are damaged or dull; verify work correctness
• Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures, including IATF:2016 and the employee handbook
• Follow safety regulations and policies, including wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.)
• Participate in continuous improvement activities and submit cost-saving suggestions
• Perform all other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor and/or manager

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Eligible to work in the United States
• Complete a certified Apprenticeship program (class taken outside of working hours; must maintain a B average)
• Must satisfactorily complete pre-employment screening (background check and drug screen)
• Must be able to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
• Report to work on time to support production startup
• Possess good physical stamina and coordination
• Must be able to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, or climb for extended periods
• Must be able to lift, push, or pull objects up to 50 pounds
• Work as a team; good communication skills, basic math skills, and physical dexterity
