Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot injection and compression molds and progressive dies, develop a plan of action, and repair them to produce quality molded and stamped parts.
- Work from engineering drawings, parts, and sketches to fabricate jigs, fixtures, and replacement parts for production machinery, molds, and dies.
- Repair cylinders, install and adjust proximity switches on molds with cams and slide actions using knowledge of hydraulics and programmable logic controllers.
- Prepare sketches to fabricate broken sections of molds and dies, then repair damage by welding, using precision hand tools and machinery (including EDM machines) to restore original contours.
- Make minor repairs to molds in presses, such as polishing gates and details, and remove stuck parts.
- Conduct mold changeovers in a timely manner by retrieving and storing inserts.
- Maintain a safe work environment and uphold 5S standards in work areas.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED; technical education preferred.
- Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in Tool & Die repair and building of compression and injection molds and progressive dies.
- Working knowledge of hydraulics and programmable logic controllers.
- Ability to make technical decisions involved in mold and die repair, including replacement and fitting of parts.
- Ability to determine the cause of mold malfunctions and design a plan to correct problems.
- Ability to retain knowledge of mold changeovers.
- TIG welding experience.
- Electrical ability to check operation of heaters, thermocouples, and heat controllers.
- Familiarity with three-plate mold operations and hot runner systems.
