Tool Design Engineer

About the Role

Engineers in this category focus on determining optimal manufacturing methods and processes to produce company products. They apply productivity improvement methodologies, LEAN processes, ergonomics, time studies, line balancing, 6S, Kaizen, and more to reduce waste and excess.

Job Summary

• Design and build tooling to meet fabrication needs.
• Maintain digital/electronic data.
• Program and operate CNC equipment.
• Analyze drawings, sketches, and design data to determine dimensions, cutting tools, and machine speeds.
• Evaluate tool designs and coordinate with engineering for changes.
• Design machine holding fixtures for parts.
• Compute angular and linear dimensions, radii, curvatures, and outline operation sequences.
• Prepare geometric layouts using MasterCAM software.
• Write instruction sheets, check sheets, and cutter lists.
• Program multi-axis CNC milling machines/routers.
• Resolve CNC program and manufacturing issues with relevant departments.
• Support manufacturing and other departments as an internal customer.
• Perform cost analysis and tradeoff improvement studies.
• Create operation sheets, tool drawings, and detail drawings.
• Manage hazardous waste generated in the work area.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Experience in designing, developing, and applying tools and production methods for CNC machining.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Strong analytical, communication, and detail-oriented skills.
• Willingness to work overtime and weekends as needed.
• Ability to read and follow internal procedures and policies.
• Team-oriented with a continuous improvement mindset.

Required Experience and Education

• BS degree in Engineering and/or related experience.
• Up to three years of experience in a CNC machine shop environment.
• Strong CAD/CAM skills.
• Knowledge of aerospace company specifications and practices.
• Technical writing skills preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints.
• Two years of experience with Mastercam & SolidWorks.
• Minimum 5-7 years of progressive experience in quality management with supervisory experience.

Pay

Base Compensation: USD 28.00 - 33.00 Paid Salaried
