Tool Crib Attendant
About the Role
Oversees personnel responsible for sharpening cutting tools for CNC Milling Machines, performing manufacturing, maintenance, and modifications on cutting tools, and balancing holders. Supervises the cutting tool grinding room and the kitting of cutting tools and holders for specific job part numbers. Manages the Cutting Tool Room to maintain tools and holders for production and maintenance needs. Oversees purchasing of new cutting tools, setscrew, and shrink-fit holders, aiming to reduce costs through new cutter technology with coatings for improved cutting and tool life. Ensures quality and production improvements through maintenance and enhancements of cutting tools. Maintains a clean, organized, and safe workplace while ensuring employee conformance to established procedures, quality levels, and customer engineering specifications.
Responsibilities
- Oversees the selection and ordering of cutting tools and holders.
- Supervises fabrication and sharpening of cutting tools.
- Manages setup of cutting tools and balancing of cutting tools in holders.
- Acts as middle management with full authority over day-to-day operations of the group.
- Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
- Performs a variety of tasks, with a wide degree of creativity and latitude expected.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience with cutting tool grinding/sharpening and balancing of cutting tool holders.
- Working knowledge of blueprints, QC standards, tolerances, setup requirements, cutting tool design, and tool-holding technology.
- Proficiency with machine shop tools, equipment, and their setup and operation.
- Strong communication skills and professional work habits.
- Ability to interpret prints and understand metric tolerances.
- Standard safety training.
- Familiarity with a variety of concepts, practices, and procedures within the field.
