About the role

This position is responsible for performing skilled and semi-skilled work in the maintenance, repair, and construction of streets, alleys, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and related public works infrastructure. The Maintenance Technician II - Streets works under general supervision and is expected to perform duties with a high degree of independence.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, repair, and construction of streets, alleys, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and related infrastructure.
  • Operate a variety of hand and power tools, equipment, and machinery, including but not limited to jackhammers, concrete saws, compactors, and pavement rollers.
  • Repair potholes, cracks, and other surface defects in asphalt and concrete pavements.
  • Install, repair, and maintain street signs, traffic signals, and pavement markings.
  • Assist in the construction and maintenance of stormwater drainage systems, including catch basins, manholes, and pipes.
  • Perform snow and ice removal operations as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and time spent on tasks.
  • Respond to citizen requests and complaints regarding street maintenance issues.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of experience in street maintenance, construction, or a related field.
  • Valid Arizona driver’s license.
  • Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six (6) months of hire.
  • Knowledge of street maintenance techniques, materials, and equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools, equipment, and machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Physical ability to perform heavy manual labor, lift and carry up to 75 pounds, and work in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience operating heavy equipment such as backhoes, loaders, and graders.
  • Certification in traffic control or flagging operations.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills.
