Toishanese Interpreter

About the role

LanguageLine Solutions is a company dedicated to breaking down language and cultural barriers. We employ interpreters to enhance the lives of limited-English speakers, the Deaf, and the Hard-of-Hearing. This role allows you to work remotely from your home.

Responsibilities

• Respond to video and audio interpreting sessions promptly and professionally.
• Conduct interpretation in a friendly and professional manner.
• Participate in online, video, and audio training sessions.
• Deliver interpretation services via video and expediently type data on a dedicated device.
• Render correct concepts and meanings according to established interpretation protocol.
• Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions.
• Maintain a professional demeanor throughout the video and audio interpreting sessions.
• Remain calm during video and audio interpreting sessions in emergency situations.
• Follow client instructions and ensure client expectations are met.
• Understand protocol and terminology for various industries including healthcare, insurance, finance, and law.
• Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and working in a diverse environment.

Qualifications

• Fluency in Toishanese and English with skilled cultural understanding.
• Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills.
• Ability to concentrate, stay detached, and remain neutral during sensitive calls.
• Education or work experience in language-related fields preferred.
• Able to adapt to LLS technology enhancements.
• At least 18 years old.
• Licensed to work in the US/Canada.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read and write the requested languages preferred.

Technical Requirements

• Dedicated personal device for business purposes.
• Desktop/Laptop Computers with Windows, MacOS, or ChromeOS operating systems.
• Tablets (iPadOS or Android).
• Suitable smartphones (iOS or Android).
• Restricted brands: Kaspersky products, Huawei hardware.
• High-speed internet connection with download speeds of no less than 5 Mbps, upload speeds of 3 Mbps, and ping values of no more than 300 ms.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to operate a keyboard and mouse.
• Must use a headset for prolonged periods.
• Must be able to operate company-provided software and systems.
• Must have sufficient manual dexterity to type or write.
• Must be able to lift up to 26 lbs.
• May be exposed to moderate noise levels.

Pay

$23 - $25 per hour, with a minimum of the applicable state or local minimum wage.

Schedule

This is a remote position. Work hours are flexible but must align with client schedules.
