Toddler Teacher

Full-time, non-exempt position aligned with NBCC’s goals, philosophy, and agency objectives.

Minimum Qualifications

• 5 years of experience in ECE programs
• 12 ECE units plus 6 units in Infant/Toddler Development plus General Education units AND/OR 6 units in Toddler Development
• CTC Teacher Permit
• Ability to work collegially as a team member with other center staff and respond positively to all management supervision and feedback
• Solid working knowledge of Community Care Licensing requirements, California Department of Education requirements, and industry “Best Practices”
• Obtain and maintain certification in Pediatric First Aid and Pediatric CPR as required by California State Licensing

Desired Qualifications

• Proficient in written and spoken Spanish language skills (desired but not required)

Responsibilities

• In cooperation with the teaching team, plan and implement diverse, age-appropriate activities consistent with NBCC’s philosophies and industry “Best Practices,” addressing children’s individual developmental needs (social-emotional, cognitive, fine motor, gross motor, physical development, health, and nutrition)
• Adhere to all NBCC policies and procedures as mandated by the Executive and/or Program Director
• Maintain a safe, orderly, and inviting classroom environment (indoor and outdoor) in compliance with NBCC’s best practices, including daily setup
• Perform general housekeeping tasks to maintain an orderly and professional environment
• Engage in regular self-assessment, goal setting, and participate in timely performance evaluations with the Head Teacher and/or Site Supervisor
• Obtain appropriate substitutes when absent (illness, vacation, or other reasons) in cooperation with the Head Teacher, staff, and/or Site Supervisor
• Attend all scheduled NBCC Staff Development Days, regular staff meetings, and planning meetings with the Head Teacher and/or Site Supervisor
• Participate in workshops, conferences, and training sessions beneficial to professional goals and position
• Conduct ongoing Desired Results Developmental Assessments (DRDP) on children in cooperation with the teaching team
• Conduct and participate in semi-annual parent/teacher conferences in cooperation with the Head Teacher and/or Site Supervisor
• Maintain professional demeanor at all times
• Implement specific child behavior plans, interventions, and resource referrals in collaboration with the Head Teacher, Site Supervisor, and teaching team
• Recognize and respect each child’s cultural and ethnic background, responding to individual needs with dignity and fostering positive self-esteem
• Provide warmth and positive attention to every child in the classroom
• Practice positive reinforcement and redirection methods
• Adhere to all Community Care Licensing (CCL) Personal Rights requirements, ensuring children are not subjected to corporal punishment, yelling, humiliation, or punitive interference with daily functions
• Maintain required supervision of children at all times (indoor and outdoor) in accordance with California State Licensing ratio standards
• Maintain classroom documents, including daily meal counts, classroom rosters, and reports
• Report all injuries incurred by children or staff to the Head Teacher or Site Supervisor in writing
• Develop meaningful relationships with parents through open, responsive communication
• Promptly direct relevant feedback (positive or negative) to the Head Teacher and/or Site Supervisor

Work Environment

• Noise level in the work environment is frequently loud
• Work both outdoors and indoors
• Use computers, tablets, cell phones (if provided), and other office equipment
• Work both independently and collaboratively with peers and supervisors

Human Resources Requirements

• Health screening as required in section 101216(g)
• Tuberculosis test and documentation as specified in section 101216(g)
• Criminal Record Clearance and/or criminal records exemption (DOJ, CACI & FBI)
• Valid Driver’s License (if transporting children)
• Child Abuse Mandated Reporter Training (online)
• Proof of immunizations for MMR, Tdap, and Flu
• Current CPR and First Aid certification

Physical Requirements

• Health clearance by a physician
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks including squatting, bending, reaching, standing, and sitting
• Proof of current immunizations (Measles, Pertussis, Influenza)
• Tuberculosis (TB) clearance within the past year

Pay

$26–$30 hourly
