TJJD-Mgr II-Regulation Safety Mgr (MCL)

About the role

TJJD provides dorm-based residential treatment to youth committed to TJJD and assigned to a state-operated high-security juvenile correctional facility. The Regulation Safety Unit (RSU) contains individual rooms, uses a central control station to control entry to and exit from the unit, and implements enhanced youth supervision and counseling practices.

Responsibilities

• Reviews or designates the review of Regulation Safety Unit admission and local extension decisions; visits and counsels assigned youth to provide assurance to the youth's well-being; and makes determinations to release youth from the security program before expiration of the approved period.
• Provides oversight, leadership, training and technical assistance to case managers and youth development coaches in the performance of their duties; promotes ethical leadership, excellent performance, confidentiality, a positive working environment, and professional development.
• Makes recommendations to the facility administration regarding security and operation safety enhancements.
• Participates in activities relating to the facility’s compliance with TJJD policies and procedures, Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards, TJJD Case Management Standards, and collaborates with the facility’s compliance officer regarding compliance monitoring activities.
• Facilitates multi-disciplinary team meetings and actively participates in staff and special meetings regarding facility and unit operations and activities; prepares for such meetings; acts as unit liaison with the facility’s compliance officer and facility administrators; considers ideas and points of view from other staff members.
• Administers and supervises youth urinalysis tests.
• Assists in monitoring the physical security of the campus daily; monitors and supervises perimeter security checks daily; and outside Regulation Safety Unit operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree.
• Two (2) years of full-time wage-earning experience that may be any combination of the following: (1) experience working with juveniles or adults in a residential setting, treatment, or correctional program; or (2) experience relating to primary service responsibilities including assessments, development and implementation of individual case plans, development and coordination of services, and placement recommendations, referrals of youth, and individual counseling.
• A minimum of one year of the experience must be in a supervisory or team lead position, or in a senior-level position involving the performance of work with a high level of responsibility and limited or minimal supervision, or in a position responsible for coordinating or monitoring compliance efforts with related standards.
• OR High School diploma or equivalent.
• Six (6) years of full-time wage-earning experience that may be any combination of the following: (1) experience working with juveniles or adults in a residential setting, treatment, or correctional program; or (2) experience relating to primary service responsibilities including assessments, development and implementation of individual case plans, development and coordination of services, and placement recommendations, referrals of youth, and individual counseling.
• A minimum of one (1) year of the experience must be in a supervisory or team lead position or in a senior-level position involving the performance of work with a high level of responsibility and limited or minimal supervision, or in a position responsible for coordinating or monitoring compliance efforts with related standards.
• Valid driver's license.
• Certified as a Texas Model Champion or ability to obtain certification within 6 months.
• Become a TBRI Practitioner, if selected for training.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with major course work in business administration, public administration, criminal justice (corrections, not law enforcement or police sciences), social science, behavioral science, or related field.
• Experience providing services for juveniles in a correctional program or other program.
