About the role

Oversees the daily operations of a juvenile residential facility.

Facilitates youth rehabilitation, supervision of youth, and coaching personal development in accordance with individualized treatment plans.

Plans, assigns, and/or supervises the work of others.

Responsibilities

• Oversee supervision of recreation staff, recreation staff schedules, and ensure safety and security of youth and staff.
• Ensure the planning and implementing of a variety of recreational activities, leisure service activities, enrichment activities, intramurals, incentive programs, special events, holiday activities, school vacation activities, and facilitate the use of the incentive dorms/motivational areas.
• Oversee and maintain an inventory of equipment and recreational needs.
• Maintain a cooperative relationship with all personnel to provide adequate supervision, a safe environment and engagement of youth during activities.
• Incorporate feedback from all campus staff into activities to ensure needs of youth and campus are met during recreation.
• Plan, coordinate, and provide direction to the recreation department.
• Work to be aware and vigilant of all individualized plans for youth involved in activities.
• Collaborate with the facility's administrators, program management, and other recreation program staff to design and implement the facility's recreation activities as part of the agency's rehabilitation strategy.
• Works to be aware and vigilant of all individualized plans for youth involved in activities.
• Ensure appropriate documentation is completed for all recreation activities and will maintain required records, files, and forms in a timely and accurate way.
• Ensure the recreation department collaborates with direct care staff and will provide necessary equipment to direct care staff to facilitate scheduled coach led recreation, leisure recreation, and enrichment activities.
• Ensures recreation staff maintain an inventory of equipment, remove any faulty or malfunctioning equipment immediately and report to appropriate supervisors.
• Schedule recreation staff to work in a manner that best suits the needs of the campus including evening and weekend programming.
• Provide instructions, explanations, and enforce all recreation activity rules, regulations, procedures, and safety guidelines.
• Ensure a consistent schedule is provided to youth that is transparent to them and provides warnings and prompts for all movements and transitions; and exercises independent judgment when the need arises to alter a schedule (while still maintaining transparency and warnings).
• Maintains privacy and follows all policies, regulation, and laws in regards to youth records.
• Completes and maintains required records, files, and forms in a timely and accurate way.
• Performs a variety of related duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
• Performs all duties in compliance with agency safety policies and procedures:
• Reports safety hazards and corrects hazards when possible.
• Completes required documentation in the event of an accident/injury within requested timeframes.
• Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency attendance and leave policies.

Requirements

• Must be at least 21 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of full-time wage-earning experience supervising or providing rehabilitation/treatment services to youth or adults in a treatment program, correctional program, or a residential setting (e.g., correctional officer, case manager, counselor, or probation or parole officer).
• Preferred Qualifications: College degree or coursework, one year of experience working with adolescents, supervising or providing recreational activities with youth in the community, experience leading group sports for adolescents, verifiable documented volunteer experience involving such activities.
• Bachelor's degree with major course work in criminal justice, behavioral science, kinesiology, or a related field.
• Experience as a Juvenile Correctional Officer.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must possess a valid Driver License.

• Ability to communicate effectively with youth to foster youth cooperation in the treatment process.
• Ability to plan and implement youth programs.
