About the role

Home health aides care for those who may be intellectually, physically, and/or emotionally disabled and who wish to receive care in the comfort of their own home. Patients may be recently discharged from the hospital and need short-term or extensive care that friends and family may be unable to provide.

Home Health Aides check vitals, provide personal care, assist with meal preparation, perform light housekeeping duties, and other activities of daily living. They also provide companionship, grocery shop, run errands, pick up prescriptions, and provide transportation to and from appointments.

Home Health Aides may go to the same patient’s home for months or even years, but most aides work with several different patients, sometimes on the same day. They generally work alone with periodic visits from their supervisor and must be comfortable working independently with the patient. Aides are given detailed instructions on how to care for each individual and are expected to follow them accordingly. They are responsible for getting to patients’ homes on their own and may spend some of their time traveling.

Responsibilities

• Honest and dependable, as you will be trusted in a patient’s private home
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Reliable transportation to travel to patients’ homes
