About the Role
The Teacher Assistant - Title I provides support to the instructional program within assigned classrooms, working with individual and/or small groups of students and providing clerical support to teachers and staff.
Responsibilities
- Adapts classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher to support and reinforce classroom objectives.
- Administers classroom assignments, tests, homework assignments, and make-up work to support teachers in the instructional process.
- Assists students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments (e.g., read stories, listen to students read, provide writing assistance, reinforce English lessons, provide spelling practice, facilitate activities, computer learning programs) to practice and/or reinforce learning concepts and help students reach academic goals and grade-level standards.
- Communicates with teachers and/or parents to assist in evaluating student progress and/or implementing classroom objectives.
- Implements instructional programs and lesson plans under the supervision of the assigned teacher to present and/or reinforce learning concepts.
- Maintains classroom equipment, work areas, and manual and electronic files and records to ensure availability of items, provide written reference, ensure a safe learning environment, and meet mandated requirements.
- Monitors individual and/or groups of students in various settings (e.g., classroom, playground, field trips, library, lunchroom, bus loading/unloading) to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
- Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g., accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions) to communicate information to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel.
- Supports classroom teachers and other school personnel to assist in the implementation of curriculum and teaching methodologies.
- Attends meetings and in-service presentations to acquire and/or convey information relative to job functions.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Requirements
- Age 16 or older.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have an Associate’s degree, 60 quarter/48 semester hours, or have passed the ParaPro Praxis test.
Pay
Hourly rate: $18.83.
Schedule
5.75 hours per day.
