TIG Welder

Responsibilities

• Perform welding on hot items (up to 900F) for extended periods.
• Work with TIG welding, including welding other materials like aluminum, copper, stainless, etc.
• Weld and repair various types of tool steels (A-2, D-2, H-13, S-7, 4140).
• Preheat tool steels in an oven to the correct temperature.
• Grind grooves in material to prepare for welding repairs.
• Stress-relieve tool steels during the welding process and reheat as necessary.
• Maintain a clean work environment.
• Maintain welding equipment and supplies as needed.
• Be available to work overtime as required.
• Maneuver heavy details using carts, rollers, and hooks.
• Assist toolroom and maintenance personnel in machine repair, changeover, setup, and operation.
• Safely operate overhead cranes.
• Work safely around all other toolroom equipment.
• Read basic measuring tools (tape measure, scale, calipers, micrometers).
• Braze materials (optional).
• Operate toolroom equipment (mills, lathe, saw, drill press, grinder) (optional).
• MIG and arc welding abilities (optional).

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; journeyman’s certification (preferred).
• Completion of a reasonable amount of class hours in related fields from a trade school.
• Welding certification preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret documents, write routine reports, and communicate professionally.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to evaluate situations and consider all variables without jumping to conclusions.
• Physical stamina to stand, walk, use hands to feel or handle objects, tools or controls, reach and lift with hands and arms, talk, see and hear.
• Flexibility to work various shift hours and/or extended hours if needed.
