The Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) is seeking a Social Studies Instructor to join our team at Vinal Technical High School in Middletown.

About Us

For over 100 years, CTECS has been the leading force in Career Technical Education (CTE) in Connecticut. CTECS operates 17 diploma-granting technical high schools, one technical education center, and two airframe mechanics and aircraft maintenance programs. The school system provides a direct employment pipeline for high school students and adult learners.

Schedule

• First shift, full time
• Monday–Friday, 7 hours daily
• 188 days per school year (10-month academic calendar)

Location

Vinal Technical High School in Middletown, CT.

Pay

Salary range VS01–VS02, derived from the State Vocational Federation of Teachers.

Requirements

• Active State of Connecticut teaching certificate in Social Studies (endorsement 026)
• Valid certificate issued by the Connecticut State Board of Education with a secondary school endorsement

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional experience related to teaching Social Studies
• Experience with 21st century standards-based lesson planning aligned to the College, Career, and Civic Life (C3) Framework for Social Studies and the CT Core Standards in History/Social Studies
• Experience with varied assessments to inform instruction and promote learning
• Experience fostering and facilitating learning and classroom management
• Experience communicating ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
• Experience demonstrating active listening, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Experience working collaboratively with others and demonstrating public relations skills
• Entry-level computer skills including Microsoft Office and Google Products
• Teaching or substitute teaching experience, including involvement in student/community activities

Responsibilities

Planning and Preparation

• Prepare lesson plans with clear objectives, appropriate techniques, and differentiation to serve all learners
• Demonstrate knowledge of History/Social Studies content and pedagogy for all high school curricula
• Understand and address the varied needs of each student
• Collaborate with guidance personnel and support service educators to implement IEP and 504 accommodations/modifications
• Set instructional goals and outcomes
• Use varied instructional practices and resources
• Design effective instructional learning opportunities and assessments

Classroom Environment

• Develop mutual respect and rapport with students
• Establish a culture for learning
• Manage classroom procedures and student behavior positively
• Organize physical space to maximize learning opportunities

Instruction

• Communicate effectively with students
• Use questioning and discussion techniques to engage students intellectually
• Follow the scope and sequence of the approved CTECS instructional program and curriculum
• Design instruction to meet the needs of all students through individual and small group settings
• Utilize ongoing assessments to design clear and specific learning tasks
• Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness
