About the Role

A CTECS School Counselor implements a developmentally appropriate, comprehensive, and preventative school counseling program covering academic, career, and social-emotional domains. The program aligns with the CT Comprehensive School Counseling Framework, ASCA professional standards, and ethical guidelines. Counselors maximize student success, promote equitable access to education, and contribute to a school culture of success as vital members of the leadership team.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate small groups and short-term individual counseling using DBT-A and Restorative Practices.
• Teach classroom school counseling lessons as part of the CTECS Comprehensive School Counseling Framework.
• Conduct annual individual planning meetings with students and families in grades 9-12.
• Assist students with postsecondary planning, including college admissions and career pathways.
• Collect and analyze data to document intervention results and inform programmatic decisions.
• Collaborate with central office, administration, teachers, families, and staff to support school and district improvement goals.
• Participate in meetings to review and provide multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) for students.
• Serve as the case manager for students with 504 plans on your caseload.
• Advocate for equitable access to programs and services, and compassionate and just treatment of all students.
• Participate in professional development activities.
• Provide appraisal and advisement to students in large group, classroom, small group, and individual settings.
• Guide students in developing post-secondary educational and career plans, including career assessments and interpretation of results.
• Implement a developmentally appropriate school counseling curriculum for all students.
• Review credits, grades, and transcripts with students to ensure they meet graduation requirements and develop academic plans.
• Assist students in navigating college admissions and other trade-specific processes.
• Support transitions from middle school to high school and from high school to postsecondary education or careers.
• Collaborate with teachers, families, and staff on early identification and intervention of students' academic and social-emotional needs.
• Consult with families, teachers, administrators, and support agencies regarding students' needs.
• Work with school psychologists, social workers, nurses, and outside mental health providers to deliver multi-tiered support.
• Make referrals to appropriate school and community resources.
• Participate in parent/teacher/student meetings and student assistance teams.

Requirements

• Active State of Connecticut certificate with Endorsement 068 (School Counselor).
• Commitment to implementing a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with state and national standards.
• Experience in academic, career, and social-emotional counseling in a school setting.
• Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including students, families, staff, and community partners.
• Strong data analysis and program evaluation skills.
• Knowledge of multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) and 504 plan management.

Schedule

• First shift, full-time (35 hours per week), Monday through Friday.
• Ten-month academic calendar (188 days per year).
• This is an anticipated durational vacancy from August 24, 2026, to October 30, 2026.

Pay

Salary is derived from the State Vocational Federation of Teachers (VS002).
