We are seeking twenty-seven (27) highly motivated Paraeducators to serve at four of our Technical High Schools across Connecticut.

Locations & Positions

• Eli Whitney Technical High School – Hamden, CT (8 positions)
• Emmett O’Brien Technical High School – Ansonia, CT (3 positions)
• Platt Technical High School – Milford, CT (8 positions)
• J.M. Wright Technical High School – Stamford, CT (8 positions)

About the Role

In this position, the selected incumbent will support certified staff in delivering educational services and programming to students, provide individualized and small-group assistance that strengthens learning, and contribute to student success.

• Under the direction of a certified teacher, reinforce instruction in academic classrooms and shops.
• Implement accommodations and modifications as written in a student's IEP or behavior intervention plan.
• Collect data on student progress and behavior.
• Support student organization, independence, and self-regulation consistent with school-wide expectations.
• Assist with supervision and shop safety practices.
• Provide personal care assistance where a student's plan requires it.

Paraeducators work under the supervision of certified staff and do not serve as the teacher or deliver initial instruction.

Responsibilities

• Provides academic, technical, and organizational support to students individually and in groups.
• Assists certified staff with instructional activities, classroom preparation, assessments, and data collection.
• Supports classroom management and helps maintain safe, orderly learning environments.
• Supervises students in classrooms, technical areas, common spaces, and during school activities.
• Promotes safe practices and proper use of tools, equipment, and learning materials.
• Supports students with diverse learning needs, including implementing Individualized Education Program (IEP) related accommodations as directed.
• Assists with technology use and preparation of instructional materials.
• Contributes to positive classroom culture and builds supportive relationships with students and families.
• Engages in professional development and maintains confidentiality and compliance with safety and reporting requirements.

Requirements

• Two (2) years of college training or an Associate’s degree. Note: College training is calculated on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of two (2) years.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• A passing score on the ParaPro Assessment may be substituted for the General Experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience supporting students with disabilities in a high school setting.
• Experience implementing Individualized Education Program (IEP) related accommodations.
• Experience communicating with students and parents using technology such as PowerSchool.
• Experience with behavior support plans, de-escalation, or crisis response training.
• Experience supporting students in inclusive or co-taught classrooms.
• Ability to support students across both academic and shop settings.
