Wright Technical High School is located in Stamford, Connecticut Position Highlights 10-month position, paid over 12 monthsMonday-Friday, Paid HolidaysEligibility to apply for available stipend positions as identified in the SVFT bargaining unit contract Your Role In this position, the selected incumbent will support certified staff in delivering educational services and programming to students, provide individualized and small-group assistance that strengthens learning, and contribute to student success. Under the direction of a certified teacher, the paraeducator reinforces instruction in academic classrooms, shops; implements accommodations and modifications as written in a student's IEP or behavior intervention plan; collects data on student progress and behavior; supports student organization, independence, and self-regulation consistent with school-wide expectations; assists with supervision and shop safety practices; and provides personal care assistance where a student's plan requires it. Paraeducators work under the supervision of certified staff and do not serve as the teacher or deliver initial instruction. PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK) In the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System this class is accountable for supporting certified staff in delivering educational services and programming to students, providing individualized or small-group assistance to enhance learning, and foster student success. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Provides academic, technical, and organizational support to students individually and in groups; Assists certified staff with instructional activities, classroom preparation, assessments, and data collection; Supports classroom management and helps maintain safe, orderly learning environments; Supervises students in classrooms, technical areas, common spaces, and during school activities; Promotes safe practices and proper use of tools, equipment, and learning materials; Supports students with diverse learning needs, including implementing Individualized Education Program (IEP) related accommodations as directed; Assists with technology use and preparation of instructional materials; Contributes to positive classroom culture and builds supportive relationships with students and families; Engages in professional development and maintains confidentiality and compliance with safety and reporting requirements; Performs related duties as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY Knowledge of career and technical education practices, tools, and safety standards; special education processes, including IEP objectives and accommodations; classroom management strategies and student engagement techniques; foundational literacy skills; Skills interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; problem-solving skills; Ability to respond appropriately to behavioral and safety concerns under established protocols. Minimum Qualifications - General Experience Two (2) years of college training or an Associate’s degree. NOTE: College training is calculated on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of two (2) years. Minimum Qualifications - Special Experience Must be at least 18 years of age. Minimum Qualifications - Substitutions Allowed A passing score on the ParaPro Assessment may be substituted for the General Experience. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience supporting students with disabilities in a high school setting. Experience implementing Individualized Education Program (IEP) related accommodations. Experience communicating with students and parents using technology such as PowerSchool. Experience with behavior support plans, de-escalation, or crisis response training. Experience supporting students in inclusive or co-taught classrooms. Ability t o support students across both academic and shop settings.
