Through the Lens

Our Through the Lens community filmmaking programme amplifies the voices of local people in their communities by providing a platform to express themselves through short films, documentary, or fiction. From October 2025 to June 2026, we are working with young people at Murrayburn Primary School, Craigroyston Community High School, Castlebrae Community High School, Wester Hailes High School, Forrester High School and Leith Academy. Along with adult groups comprising of local residents from North Edinburgh, Southeast Edinburgh, and Southwest Edinburgh. Through our deep integration within these communities, we aim to cultivate a culture of creativity, education, and transformation. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that no one is excluded from the rewarding experience of participating in filmmaking activities and having creative control over the films they make. Participants will learn each stage of filmmaking through watching and discussing different types of films, and learning the key skills in camera, sound, directing, editing, and screenwriting, whilst being supported to use these skills to devise and produce a short film.
