Thrift Store Clerk

About the Role

The Salvation Army, an international evangelical movement and part of the universal Christian church, seeks a part-time team member to maintain thrift-store operations. The mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs without discrimination.

Responsibilities

• Keep shelves and clothing racks fully stocked, organized, and sales-ready.
• Assist management in researching and pricing merchandise.
• Process all incoming merchandise according to established standards.
• Perform daily stocking of racks, shelves, counters, and tables.
• Maintain a clean store environment, including shelves, counters, and tables.
• Wrap and bag customer purchases as needed.
• Provide courteous, prompt customer service aligned with The Salvation Army’s mission.
• Complete any additional assigned duties.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Retail or cash-register experience preferred but not required.
• Flexibility to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Basic computer skills for web-based payroll, timekeeping, and personal-data access.
• Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and creative problem-solving.
• Independent judgment and decision-making.
• Pass all applicable background checks.
• Complete Safe from Harm training within 90 days of hire.

Skills

• Good verbal and written communication.
• Manual dexterity for operating office equipment and handling merchandise.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, bend, and reach for extended periods.
• Dexterity to operate office equipment and handle merchandise.
• Occasional climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
• Ability to lift and/or move more than 50 pounds occasionally.

Working Conditions

Retail setting with occasional exposure to outside weather conditions. Moderate noise level typical of a thrift store.

Pay

$10.00 per hour, up to 29 hours per week.
