Thrift Associate

About the role

The Arizona Humane Society is seeking a part‑time Thrift Associate for its Mesa Thrift Store location, working Mondays, Wednesdays and Sundays from 9:30 AM to 6:30 PM.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safe and efficient operation of the thrift store.
• Help maximize revenues through approved marketing and display techniques, appropriate pricing practices, and excellent customer service.
• Accept, process, and price donations while providing top‑notch service to donors and customers.
• Assist customers with loading and unloading donations/purchases, including furniture items.
• Process donations quickly and efficiently (up to about 700 garments or 40 boxes of hard goods per shift) after training.
• Assist volunteers with thrift store operations, including training them on cash register, donation receipt, processing, and customer service.
• Work closely with Thrift Store Drivers to coordinate prompt pickups of donated items and help load/unload trucks when needed.
• Prepare inventory for estate donations and complete all required tax documentation.
• Maintain an up‑to‑date volunteer roster (phone numbers, days/times worked) and distribute copies as needed.
• Track and maintain records of volunteer hours worked.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Thrift store and/or merchandising experience preferred.
• Ability to manage time independently in an unstructured environment with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to run the cash register without assistance upon completion of training.
