Camp Staff

Our outdoor science camp staff is hand selected and hired based on their experience working with kids at other camps and a love for the outdoors. Each staff member undergoes a thorough background check and drug test to ensure the safety of the children.

About the Role

The Outdoor & Environmental Educator performs as a teacher in the cabins and outdoors on trails, acting as both a cabin leader and a naturalist. Cabin Leaders sleep in cabins overnight with the students, telling stories and singing songs at bedtime and waking them cheerfully each morning.

Responsibilities

• Lead games, experiments, and inquiry-based learning on trails to teach students about the natural world and develop critical thinking skills.
• Build confidence and pride in students through leadership and team-building activities in cabins.
• Work weekdays during the school season (September to June).
• Enjoy working with children and adventuring in the great outdoors.
• Handle emergencies and provide first aid as needed.

Requirements

• Experience working with kids at other camps.
• A love for the outdoors and a dedication to making a difference in the lives of children.
• Pass a thorough background check and drug test.
• Ability to work with children overnight in cabins.
• Ability to hike and perform outdoor activities in various weather conditions.

Qualifications

• College graduate with a four-year degree in one of the sciences.
• Training in creating outdoor lesson plans and teaching methods.
• Experience in teaching according to California State Science Curriculum Standards.
• Knowledge of the State of California Board of Education Science Framework.

Skills

• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• Ability to handle emergencies and provide first aid.
• Experience in teaching science and environmental education.
• Ability to adapt lessons to meet the needs of diverse student populations.
