Key Responsibilities
- Affirm daily care of thoroughbred horses
- Feed and water horses according to established schedules
- Turn horses in and out of paddocks and stalls
- Groom horses and assist with general care
- Monitor horse health, behavior, and overall condition
- Report any signs of illness, injury, or behavioral concerns
- Assist with veterinary and farrier visits as needed
- Maintain accurate records of care and observations
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of barn facilities
- Assist with bedding, hay, and feed management
- Clean and maintain water troughs and feeding areas
- Auxiliary farm maintenance tasks as needed
- Safely handle thoroughbreds in various settings
- Follow established safety procedures and protocols
- Ensure safe working environment for horses and staff
- Assist with turnout and exercise routines as directed
- Assist Farm Manager with daily farm operations
- Support inventory tracking for feed, bedding, and supplies
- Auxiliary seasonal farm tasks and maintenance
- Support facility readiness for visitors, veterinarians, or inspections
Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of thoroughbred or equine care experience
- Experience handling thoroughbred horses preferred
- Must live on the property or within 10 minutes of the farm location
- Strong attention to detail and observational skills
- Proactive mindset and ability to anticipate horse care needs
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong work ethic and reliability
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working on thoroughbred farms or breeding operations
- Experience assisting veterinarians and farriers
- Knowledge of equine health and safety practices
- Experience with horse transportation preparation
- Basic farm maintenance experience
