About the Role

The University of Connecticut (UConn) School of Law seeks applications from lateral candidates for the Thomas F. Gallivan, Jr. Chair of Real Property Law. This is a tenured faculty position reserved for an outstanding scholar with an international or national reputation for excellence in property law scholarship, teaching, and service.

Responsibilities

• Provide vision and leadership through scholarly research and engagement at major national and international conferences and symposia
• Develop innovative Law School program and academic offerings
• Engage with members of the Connecticut real property bar
• Utilize discretionary endowment funds to support research, build relationships with property scholars, practitioners, and policymakers, and engage with the broader legal community
• Collaborate with the Center for Energy & Environmental Law, the Connecticut Institute for Resilience and Climate Adaptation, and other partners throughout the University

Minimum Qualifications

• JD degree or equivalent terminal degree in a related field
• Qualifications for appointment at the rank of Full Professor with tenure
• Distinguished record of high-impact scholarship in property law, land use, real estate law, or closely related areas
• Demonstrated excellence in classroom teaching and a commitment to student mentorship
• Willingness to engage with members of the Connecticut bar
• Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in the workplace, legal academy, and/or profession

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience leading academic centers, programs, or policy initiatives
• Proven track record of bridging academic theory with legal practice or public policy
• Experience in securing and managing external research funding
• Interest in developing new academic offerings appropriate for legal and other professional communities, such as planners, municipal officials, and others
• Interest in elevating the scholarly profile and professional engagement of colleagues across the property law field

Appointment Terms

• Full-time, 9-month appointment for a tenured-at-hire position
• Lateral applicants must meet Law School and University requirements for appointment at the rank of Full Professor with tenure
• Salary and rank will be highly competitive and commensurate with background, qualifications, and experience
• Candidates should expect to work at the Law School located in Hartford, Connecticut
