About the role
Third Class Power Plant Engineers are essential personnel at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Their primary responsibility is to perform Central Heating Plant shift operations under the supervision of the Lead Operator. This includes the startup and shutdown of equipment to ensure electrical and steam generation remains safe and reliable.
Responsibilities
- Perform basic electrical and mechanical inspections, troubleshoot, conduct repairs, and perform maintenance tasks as assigned.
- Read and record gauges and meters.
- Open and close valves and adjust controls to regulate flows of operating fluids.
- Be responsible for the safe receiving, handling, and storage of ammonia, water treatment chemicals, and fuel oil.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license.
- Experience in power plant operations or related field preferred.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical principles.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
- Good physical condition and ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Pay
