About the role

As a key member of the Lunar Core Components Heat Transfer team, you will apply your thermal hardware expertise to Blue Origin’s lunar vehicle architectures. You will contribute to a team of thermal engineers developing breakthrough thermal hardware for lunar landers and shepherding those designs through build, test, and verification. The role demands technical excellence, leadership, and a commitment to quality that directly advances safe human spaceflight. Passion for the company’s mission and vision is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Design, size, build, and test spacecraft thermal hardware such as heat exchangers, cold plates, radiators, and related components
  • Drive thermal designs through build, test, and verification phases for lunar lander systems
  • Collaborate across cross-functional teams to deliver verified thermal solutions
  • Apply heat transfer and fluid system fundamentals to solve spacecraft thermal challenges

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
  • 3+ years of relevant thermal engineering experience
  • Strong grasp of heat transfer and fluid system fundamentals
  • Familiarity with heat exchangers, cold plates, radiators, and other common spacecraft hardware
  • Demonstrated experience designing, sizing, building, and testing hardware
  • Understanding of aerospace hardware verification and validation processes
  • Moderate experience with CAD software; preferably Creo
  • Familiarity with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation methods for component-level analysis
  • Demonstrated experience working in cross-functional teams to deliver results

Desired

  • M.S. or Ph.D. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
  • 5+ years of relevant aerospace experience
  • Solid understanding of pumped fluid loop hardware (pumps, cold plates, radiators, valves, heat exchangers) and semi-passive devices (sensors, heaters)
  • Familiarity with relevant standards such as AS9100D, ASME, SAE, AWS, and ANSI Y14.5
  • Experience solving a variety of thermal problems demonstrating breadth in application
  • Vendor technical management experience
  • Design for manufacturability and assembly experience
  • Experience developing component specifications
  • Demonstrated experience in Creo modeling and drawing creation
  • Familiarity with Thermal Desktop and Sinda/Fluint, including model validation and test correlation
  • Experience with CFD optimization of cold plates, heat exchangers, and radiators
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools experience

Base Pay Range

Base pay varies by work location:

  • California: $107,136 – $149,990.40
  • Colorado: $98,208 – $137,491.20
  • Washington: $107,136 – $149,990.40
  • Other site ranges may differ
