About the role
As a key member of the Lunar Core Components Heat Transfer team, you will apply your thermal hardware expertise to Blue Origin’s lunar vehicle architectures. You will contribute to a team of thermal engineers developing breakthrough thermal hardware for lunar landers and shepherding those designs through build, test, and verification. Responsibilities
- Design, size, build, and test spacecraft thermal hardware such as heat exchangers, cold plates, radiators, and related components
- Drive thermal designs through build, test, and verification phases for lunar lander systems
- Collaborate across cross-functional teams to deliver verified thermal solutions
- Apply heat transfer and fluid system fundamentals to solve spacecraft thermal challenges
Qualifications
- Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
- 3+ years of relevant thermal engineering experience
- Strong grasp of heat transfer and fluid system fundamentals
- Familiarity with heat exchangers, cold plates, radiators, and other common spacecraft hardware
- Demonstrated experience designing, sizing, building, and testing hardware
- Understanding of aerospace hardware verification and validation processes
- Moderate experience with CAD software; preferably Creo
- Familiarity with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation methods for component-level analysis
- Demonstrated experience working in cross-functional teams to deliver results
Desired
- M.S. or Ph.D. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
- 5+ years of relevant aerospace experience
- Solid understanding of pumped fluid loop hardware (pumps, cold plates, radiators, valves, heat exchangers) and semi-passive devices (sensors, heaters)
- Familiarity with relevant standards such as AS9100D, ASME, SAE, AWS, and ANSI Y14.5
- Experience solving a variety of thermal problems demonstrating breadth in application
- Vendor technical management experience
- Design for manufacturability and assembly experience
- Experience developing component specifications
- Demonstrated experience in Creo modeling and drawing creation
- Familiarity with Thermal Desktop and Sinda/Fluint, including model validation and test correlation
- Experience with CFD optimization of cold plates, heat exchangers, and radiators
- Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools experience
Base Pay Range
Base pay varies by work location:
- California: $107,136 – $149,990.40
- Colorado: $98,208 – $137,491.20
- Washington: $107,136 – $149,990.40
- Other site ranges may differ
