Thermal Engineer II
About the role
This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. As part of a diverse and hardworking team of engineers, you will contribute to the definition and development of spacecraft thermal control systems. You will work directly with NASA and our National Team Partners as part of the Human Landing System (HLS).
We are looking for an engineer to be responsible for the delivery and integration of thermal components across the Blue Moon Crew Lander as part of the HLS Crew Lander Thermal Systems Engineering Vehicle Team. In this role, you will be responsible for Active Thermal Control System component delivery, integration, and verification efforts as well as supporting Active Thermal Control System design efforts.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the definition and development of spacecraft thermal control systems in a fast-paced and often uncertain environment
- Deliver, integrate, and verify Active Thermal Control System components for the Blue Moon Crew Lander
- Support Active Thermal Control System design efforts
- Perform basic thermal analysis using hand calculations
- Assemble and test hardware
- Work with aerospace hardware verification and validation processes
- Collaborate with NASA and National Team Partners on the Human Landing System (HLS)
Requirements
- Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
- 3+ years of relevant Thermal Engineering or Mechanical Engineering experience
- Demonstrated experience assembling and testing hardware
- Understanding of aerospace hardware verification and validation process
- Familiarity with common spacecraft Active Thermal Control hardware such as cold plates, heat exchangers, valves, radiators, tubing, fittings, and working fluids
- Experience with CAD software (preferably Creo)
- U.S. citizenship or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications
- M.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
- 5+ years of relevant aerospace experience
- Experience designing, building, and testing fluid routing systems and associated components
- Solid understanding of pumped fluid loop hardware such as tubing, cold plates, radiators, valves, heat exchangers, and semi-passive devices like sensors and heaters
- Experience with Thermal Desktop and Sinda/Fluint
- Ability to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment, including frequent interactions with engineers, managers, and program leadership
- Highly self-motivated with strong organizational and written/oral communication skills
- Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment
Pay
Base Pay Range:
- CO applicants: $98,208.00 - $137,491.20
- WA applicants: $107,136.00 - $149,990.40
- Other site ranges may differ
