About the role
As a key member of the Lunar Core Components Heat Transfer team, you will apply your thermal hardware expertise to Blue Origin’s Lunar vehicle architectures. You will join a team of Thermal Engineers developing thermal hardware for lunar landers and shepherding those designs through build, test, and verification. The role calls for technical expertise, leadership, and a commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for the company’s mission and vision is required.
Responsibilities
- Provide thermal hardware expertise to Lunar vehicle architectures
- Design, size, build, and test thermal hardware
- Drive hardware through build, test, and verification phases
- Collaborate in cross-functional teams to deliver results
Requirements
- Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
- 3+ years of relevant Thermal Engineering experience
- Strong grasp of heat transfer and fluid system fundamentals
- Familiarity with heat exchangers, cold plates, and other common spacecraft hardware
- Demonstrated experience designing, sizing, building, and testing hardware
- Understanding of aerospace hardware verification and validation processes
- Moderate experience with CAD software; preferably Creo
- Familiarity with computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulation methods for component-level analysis
- Demonstrated experience working in cross-functional teams to deliver results
Qualifications
- M.S. or PhD degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering (desired)
- 5+ years of relevant aerospace experience (desired)
- Solid understanding of pumped fluid loop hardware such as pumps, cold plates, radiators, valves, heat exchangers, and semi-passive devices like sensors and heaters (desired)
- Familiarity with relevant standards such as AS9100D, ASME, SAE, AWS and ANSI Y14.5 specifications (desired)
- Experience solving a variety of thermal problems demonstrating breadth in application (desired)
- Vendor technical management experience (desired)
- Design for manufacturability and assembly experience (desired)
- Experience developing component specifications (desired)
- Demonstrated experience in CREO modeling and drawing creation (desired)
- Familiarity with precision drilling techniques (desired)
- Experience with complex CREO modeling techniques and hole patterning (desired)
- Familiarity with Thermal Desktop and Sinda/Fluint, including model validation and test correlation (desired)
- Experience with CFD optimization of cold plates and heat exchangers (desired)
- Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools experience (desired)
Pay
Base Pay Range:
California applicants: $107,136.00 – $149,990.40
Colorado applicants: $98,208.00 – $137,491.20
Washington applicants: $107,136.00 – $149,990.40
