We're looking for a passionate Senior Backend Engineer to join our growing team. This role is pivotal in building and scaling the infrastructure that powers our matchmaking platform, ensuring millions of users have a seamless, real-time experience.
About the role
As a Senior Backend Engineer, you'll work closely with product, data science, and frontend teams to design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend services. You'll tackle challenges in scalability, reliability, and real-time data processing while contributing to architectural decisions that shape the future of our platform.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs that handle millions of requests per day with low latency.
- Collaborate with frontend engineers to define API contracts and ensure smooth integration.
- Optimize database schemas, queries, and caching strategies for performance and cost efficiency.
- Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting to proactively identify and resolve issues.
- Develop and maintain real-time features, such as live matchmaking and notifications.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code, and conduct thorough code reviews.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering best practices.
- Participate in on-call rotations to ensure system reliability and uptime.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional backend development experience, with a strong focus on scalability and performance.
- Expertise in at least one backend programming language (e.g., Python, Go, Java, or Node.js).
- Experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., Redis, MongoDB).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform).
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
- Proficiency with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience with real-time data processing (e.g., WebSockets, Kafka, or RabbitMQ).
- Solid grasp of security best practices, including authentication, authorization, and data encryption.

Pay
$150,000 – $200,000 base salary, plus equity and performance bonuses.
Schedule
Full-time, flexible hours with core overlap of 10 AM – 3 PM PT for collaboration. Remote or hybrid options available.
