Position Responsibilities

  • Available during all days and shifts, including holidays.
  • Compensation for holidays worked.
  • Typical schedule focused on these hours when other staff members are not on the property.
  • Acts as the primary van driver when on duty and provides transportation services to veterans according to program, appointment, and community needs.
  • Assesses needs and interests of Veterans Place residents by interacting with them on a regular basis.
  • Initiates programs, activities, and community development that address the social, recreational, educational, and developmental aspects of the residents' lives and promote positive relationships, sobriety, and supportive community engagement.
  • Affords assistance with orientation and welcoming of new residents.
  • Affords assistance in promoting responsible living and a culture of sobriety at Veterans Place and serves as a positive role model in both professional and personal behavior.
  • Affords assistance in collecting and delivering drug screen samples to the Veterans Administration for processing.
  • Maintains physical facilities, conducts building rounds as needed, and performs light maintenance and grounds tasks (e.g., switching blown breakers, spreading ice melter on walks, etc.).
  • Communicates important and arising issues to Milieu Coordinator and, where needed, participates in developing an appropriate course of action.
  • Communicates policies and the rationale behind them to residents.
  • Participates in administrative, staff, clinical, and in-service activities and training as required.
  • Performs case finding functions and outreach, identifying and screening patients for psychosocial needs.
  • Conducts psychosocial assessments and develops treatment plans in collaboration with the veteran and other provider organizations including the Veterans Administration.
  • Coordinates referrals of Veterans to the Veterans Administration and other community-based providers for additional services based on needs and eligibility (this includes expanding the existing referral network as necessary).
  • Exercises and coordinates a variety of individual and group counseling techniques that are evidence-based and demonstrate good clinical practice.
  • Maintains case records in accordance with program guidelines and professional requirements.
  • Implements legal and ethical standards of service delivery, privacy, and confidentiality, complying with all applicable regulations.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with the public and/or in a customer service capacity strongly preferred.
  • Ability to relate well to others and handle administrative responsibilities.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Veteran Status preferred.
  • Passing a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening is required and a background check will be conducted.

Working Conditions and Expectations

  • On-site position and in the community.
  • Requires daily veteran interaction.
  • Involves evening/weekend work.
  • Expected to demonstrate high standards of professionalism, cultural humility, and integrity.
  • Must remain calm and solution-oriented when working with individuals in crisis or emotional distress.
  • Ability to sit and use computer for extended periods (4+ hours) with breaks.
  • Job functions include working outdoors in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, and rain.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds occasionally using proper lifting techniques.
