About the role

This position is responsible for providing training and development support to new 1099 sales managers and representatives across a specified territory. The Territory Sales Trainer drives prospecting activity through call clinics, joint field work, and effective lead tracking and follow-up. Additionally, they deliver classroom training to newly contracted managers and representatives. As a member of the Territory Core Team, the trainer contributes to achieving territory goals, including recruiting, broker representative development, and quality portfolio management.

Responsibilities

  • In-Market Training (75%)
    • Lead the onboarding of new 1099 sales managers and representatives by demonstrating, coaching, and role-playing consultative selling skills and scripts.
    • Train on the company value proposition, objection handling, and consistent, repeatable sales approaches.
    • Drive and track territory prospecting activity through joint field work, weekly territory-wide call clinics, and territory incentives.
    • Support the ongoing development of unit-managers (ADM role) by setting weekly activity expectations, conducting 1x1 coaching sessions, and identifying challenges and opportunities.
    • Drive adoption and utilization of the leads management system by training on effective lead tracking and coaching agents using system data outputs.
    • Complete certification of new managers in district development.
  • Classroom Training (15%)
    • Lead virtual and face-to-face classroom instruction using company-approved content for newly contracted sales managers and representatives.
    • Enhance classroom engagement through interactive skills, role-play exercises, and open discussions.
    • Provide timely, meaningful feedback to participants.
    • Conduct ongoing territory training via weekly Monday Morning Meetings, Lunch and Learns, and manager meetings.
    • Utilize the company training system for administration, including class set-up, rosters, participant completions, and transcripts.
  • Core Team Strategy, Partnerships & Communication (10%)
    • Serve as a Public Sector specialist for the territory.
    • Support new broker representative development.
    • Assist with territory rollouts for new products and communicate/train on product updates.
    • Drive territory participation in quarterly national prospecting and recruiting events.
    • Act as a liaison between field sales representatives/managers and the Home Office.
    • Support the Recruiting Consultant and Territory Manager with recruiting initiatives.
    • Perform other assigned duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in training and development, with a passion for helping others reach their goals.
  • Previous management experience or demonstrated ability to coach and mentor managers.
  • Prior sales experience with the ability to close cases and coach the entire sales process.
  • Licensed to solicit insurance or ability to obtain a license in assigned territory states within 45 days.
  • Willingness to lead prospecting activity through call clinics and B2B drops with new sales managers and representatives.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills to execute company programs and initiatives with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work outside an office up to 75% of the time (overnight travel may be required based on territory geography).
  • Strong interpersonal skills, team-oriented mindset, and experience in conflict resolution.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to achieving desired results.
  • Excellent presentation, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Maintain a positive corporate image and professionalism while representing Colonial Life.

Preferred Qualifications

  • College degree or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and ability to train on other technology platforms.
  • Prior experience in adult education and development.
  • High energy, enthusiasm, and passion for the voluntary benefits industry.
  • Previous voluntary benefits experience with Colonial Life’s prospecting and selling system.
  • Experience working as (or with) 1099 independent contractors.
