Terminator B / Cable Splicer (Dominion)
Position Summary
The Cable Splicer is a safety-focused professional responsible for constructing and repairing electrical underground systems. This role involves working on energized and de-energized systems and may require travel to different job sites, including out-of-state locations, as operational and customer needs dictate. Reporting to the Foreman, the Cable Splicer performs new construction, maintenance, and repairs, leads crew members during safety briefings, trains and mentors apprentices and groundmen, and operates various pieces of equipment such as backhoes, bucket trucks, and digger trucks.
Essential Functions
- Perform new construction, maintenance, and repairs on energized and de-energized underground systems while prioritizing safety.
- Lead crew members in the absence of the Employee in Charge and conduct pre-job and tailgate safety briefings.
- Train and mentor apprentices and groundmen in underground construction and repair techniques.
- Install and repair underground power, conductors, and related hardware, utilizing appropriate tools and test equipment.
- Comprehensively understand and apply tagging procedures, grounding, and induced voltage handling on energized and de-energized lines.
- Work in confined spaces and near energized equipment, operating backhoes, bucket trucks, digger trucks, mini excavators, and other machinery.
- Operate in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and inclement weather.
- Available to work outages, storms, emergencies, including on-call rotations.
- Perform live-line work using approved gloving and hot-stick techniques on energized lines.
- Follow all safety protocols, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) use and possess a thorough understanding of insulated protective covers to isolate differences of potential.
Minimum Requirements
- Three (3) years of recent underground experience.
- A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Willingness to travel long distances on short notice.
- Lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Work for extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
- Willingness to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
Physical Demands
While performing the responsibilities of this job, you will be required to talk, listen, and use hand signals to communicate. The job frequently requires you to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle objects, operate tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, and perform job responsibilities in extreme heat, cold, wet, windy, and storm conditions. You are occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
