About the Role

North Seattle College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track physics faculty position starting Winter, Spring, or Fall quarter of 2027. The Math & Sciences Division seeks an educator passionate about leading engaging, equity-minded learning experiences in physics. Primary teaching responsibilities include the full series of General (algebra-based) Physics and Engineering (calculus-based) Physics. Class times and modalities vary and may include days, evenings, and weekends, with availability to teach hybrid and in-person classes as needed.

Responsibilities

• Instruct assigned courses spanning the two-year college physics curriculum, including both lecture and lab, to promote student engagement and success for a diverse student population.
• Design inclusive learning experiences in various modalities (lecture and lab) that extend beyond content delivery to support students in achieving course, program, and degree outcomes.
• Create assessments, analyze data, and continuously improve learning experiences to advance student achievement and success in subsequent courses.
• Teach and mentor students holistically from recruitment to transition.
• Engage in curriculum and program review incorporating current educational theories and research, with a focus on closing equity gaps related to background, identity, or learning styles.
• Contribute to a collaborative and innovative department, division, and institution.
• Participate in shared governance, including college- and district-wide efforts to build an antiracist institution focused on advancing access, retention, and success for marginalized and vulnerable students.

Requirements

• Master’s degree or PhD in Physics or Applied Physics from an accredited institution.
• Experience teaching physics at a high school, college, or university.
• Experience effectively instructing students from diverse social, cultural, and economic backgrounds with varying academic abilities and interests.
• Experience implementing strategies in both lecture and laboratory settings that support student learning.
• Experience using evidence, self-reflection, or assessment to modify practices and address gaps in student success.
• Experience engaging in collaborative projects and community building.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Ability to operate office equipment, receive and interpret data, and prepare materials.
• Ability to exchange information with supervisors, colleagues, and students.
• Ability to provide one-on-one support, present to small groups, and work at a computer with repetitive hand motion.
• Work is performed primarily in office settings with frequent interruptions and typical office noises.
