About the Department

The Donald G. Costello College of Business at George Mason University is one of the largest business colleges in Virginia, located near Washington, D.C., in Arlington and Fairfax, and at George Mason’s global campus in Incheon, South Korea. The college’s AACSB-accredited business and accounting curricula prepare undergraduate and graduate students from the U.S. and across the globe for career success in business and government. Its research-based faculty and focus on multi-disciplinary academic programs, inclusive entrepreneurship, modular education, experiential learning, and corporate partner engagement are transforming the landscape of business education and workforce development.

The Information Systems and Operations Management (ISOM) area is the largest academic area in the College of Business, comprising 20 tenure-line faculty and 11 term faculty. The ISOM area values excellence in research, teaching, and service, and includes faculty in Operations Management, Information Systems, and Business Analytics disciplines. Faculty conduct managerially relevant research using diverse methodologies and publish regularly in premier journals such as Management Science, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, Production & Operations Management, Information Systems Research, MIS Quarterly, Strategic Management Journal, and Administrative Science Quarterly. Faculty members have won university and professional society awards for research and teaching, serve on editorial boards of leading journals, and are active professionally in their fields.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct high-quality research in Operations Management (OM)
  • Teach Operations and Supply Chain Management courses in undergraduate and graduate programs
  • Teaching load: 9 credits per year (typically 3 courses/year) for tenure-track assistant professors and highly productive researchers
  • Service to the ISOM Area, College of Business, University, and profession, including student mentoring, committee membership, and engagement with the business community

Requirements

  • Earned Ph.D. in Operations Management or a closely related field, or ABD with documented expectation of degree completion before Fall 2027
  • Evidence of effective teaching or potential to teach effectively at undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Strong research trajectory with potential for publications in top-tier academic journals
  • Good citizenship in service and ability to work well with colleagues

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fewer than two years since Ph.D. conferral
  • Alignment of research interests with current OM faculty
