About The Department

The Donald G. Costello College of Business at George Mason University is one of the largest business colleges in Virginia, located near Washington, D.C., in Arlington and Fairfax, and at George Mason’s global campus in Incheon, South Korea. With 20 tenure-line faculty and 11 term faculty, the ISOM area is the largest academic area in the College of Business. It includes faculty in MIS, Operations Management, and Business Analytics disciplines, with several having multidisciplinary interests. ISOM faculty conducts managerially relevant research using a diverse set of methodologies and have published regularly in premier journals, including Management Science, Information Systems Research, MIS Quarterly, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, Production & Operations Management, Strategic Management Journal, and Administrative Science Quarterly. Faculty members have won coveted university and professional society awards for research and teaching, serve on editorial boards of leading journals, and are active professionally in their respective fields.

About The Position

This is a full-time, tenure-line Assistant Professor of Management Information Systems (MIS) position starting Fall 2027, with benefits. MIS faculty are part of the ISOM area, one of the six areas of the College of Business.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct high-quality research and teach MIS courses in undergraduate and graduate programs.
  • Teaching load is 9 credits (typically 3 courses/year) for tenure-track assistant professor candidates and highly productive researchers, as per the College’s workload policy.
  • Service to the ISOM Area, the College of Business, the University, and the profession, including student mentoring, committee membership, and interfacing with the business community.

Requirements

  • Earned Ph.D. in MIS or closely related field, or be ABD with a documented expectation of degree completion before the start of Fall 2027.
  • Evidence of effective teaching or the potential to effectively teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Evidence of a strong research trajectory with the potential for publications in top-tier academic journals.
  • Good citizenship in terms of service and the ability to work well with colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fewer than two years since Ph.D. conferral.
  • Alignment of research interests with current MIS faculty.
