Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Communication in Media Industry Studies

About the role

The University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg School for Communication seeks to hire a tenure-track assistant professor in Media Industry Studies starting in the fall of 2027.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research on critical approaches to media industries and their intersections with media policy, political economy, advertising, and surveillance.
• Engage in teaching and mentoring students, contributing to the graduate and master's programs in Communication and Media Industries.
• Participate in scholarly activities, including conferences and workshops, to maintain currency in the field.

Requirements

• Hold a Ph.D. in communication, media studies, behavioral social sciences, economics, or a related discipline by the start of the appointment.
• Exhibit excellence in teaching and have a publication record indicative of promise for leading scholarship in the field of Media Industry Studies.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in relevant field by start date.
• Excellence in teaching demonstrated through letters of recommendation and teaching evaluations.
• Promising research record evidenced by publications, presentations, and other scholarly work.

Skills

• Ability to engage critically with the historical and current structural and material conditions of media industries.
• Knowledge of power dynamics within media industries and their socio-political contexts.
