Tenure Track: Assistant Professor

This is a full-time, tenure-track 9-month appointment with an anticipated start date of Fall 2027. The position is part of a major departmental expansion, with seven faculty hires planned for the 2026–2027 academic year.

About the role

The Department of Biology seeks an Assistant Professor specializing in Bioinformatics or Biological AI to strengthen research excellence in broad areas of biology through computational, quantitative, and data-driven approaches. Research themes may align with departmental focus areas, including microbiology and biological resilience, synthetic biology, evolution, neuroscience, and biological clocks. We welcome candidates whose work spans disciplinary boundaries and supports programs ranging from basic biological mechanisms to applied biomedical, environmental, or translational sciences.

Successful applicants will develop and sustain an externally funded research program, contribute to undergraduate and graduate education, and engage in departmental and university service.

Research environment

Texas A&M’s research enterprise is internationally recognized for excellence across the life sciences. The Department of Biology provides a collegial, collaborative environment with large undergraduate and graduate programs, integrating students into active research. Faculty benefit from world-class research and teaching infrastructure, competitive startup packages, and participation in interdisciplinary doctoral programs such as Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Genetics, and Neuroscience. The department also houses the Center for Biological Clocks Research, supporting research in circadian biology and sleep.

Major remodeling of teaching space is underway, and a new Biology building is in architectural design to add significant research space for faculty.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Biology, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related discipline.
• Strong track record of impactful research in bioinformatics, computational biology, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or related areas relevant to the biological sciences.
• Demonstrated creativity, research excellence, and potential for interdisciplinary impact, particularly through connections to one or more of the department’s focal areas: Biological Resilience, Synthetic Biology, Evolution, or Biological Clocks.
