Tennis Instructor (WAR/Part-Time)

Job Summary

Under general supervision, performs instructional duties for the Parks and Recreation Division. Work involves coordinating, planning and teaching tennis lessons; instructing program participants in the use of equipment, body movement, and rules and regulations; observing practice to detect and correct mistakes and maintaining attendance records.

Responsibilities

• Coordinating, planning and teaching tennis lessons
• Instructing program participants in the use of equipment, body movement, and rules and regulations
• Observing practice to detect and correct mistakes
• Maintaining attendance records
• Handling class discipline effectively
• Explaining and demonstrating principles, techniques, and methods of regulating movement of body, hands, and feet to achieve proficiency in tennis
• Explaining and enforcing safety rules and regulations
• Explaining method of keeping score
• Maintaining equipment and reporting maintenance requirements

Requirements

• Must be 16 years of age or older
• High School Diploma and 2 to 3 years of experience in tennis instruction, preferred; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
• Tennis Playing and/or Instruction Experience Preferred

Qualifications

• General knowledge of tennis

Skills

• Initiative and independent judgment in coordinating recreational tennis programs
• Tact and courtesy in frequent contact with program participants, parents, employees, volunteers, and the general public
• Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects
• Ability to move continuously for extended periods of time under various weather conditions
