About the role

We are seeking a Temporary Staff Attorney admitted to practice in the State of California. This fully remote role supports a nationwide plaintiff-side class action and complex litigation practice. The position is tied to a specific group of matters and will conclude upon completion of the primary assignment, which may be as short as two to three months. Successful candidates must be based in and work from one of the following states: California, New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, the District of Columbia, Maryland, or Virginia.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct targeted case law research on class certification, remedies, expert admissibility, notice, and defenses.
  • Prepare expert background summaries, including credentials, testimony history, publications, and known defense challenges.
  • Prepare research memoranda, case charts, and string citations for review by senior attorneys.
  • Collect and analyze pleadings, discovery materials, deposition excerpts, and technical documents.
  • Track new decisions, rule changes, and briefing deadlines relevant to claims and defenses.
  • Summarize key authorities from California, the Ninth Circuit, and other jurisdictions on issues such as settlement approval requirements and recent court concerns affecting class settlements.
  • Track developments in cases involving valuation, restitution, and class-wide proof of harm.
  • Monitor public statements, policy updates, investor disclosures, and litigation filings.
  • Undertake other legal work as directed.

Qualifications

Experience and Education

  • Minimum of 1 year of legal experience, ideally within a law firm supporting a litigation practice.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in the California Bar in good standing and admission in the state where remote work will be performed (if different).
