These temporary positions typically work from mid-October 2026 through mid-April 2027, with a regular schedule of 40 hours per week and overtime eligibility. Temporary Snow Shovelers who are held over or called back for snow and ice control events receive an assigned bunk, meals, and paid rest breaks.

About the role

As a Temporary Snow Shoveler, you will team up with our Field Maintenance crew to ensure MSP winter operations run smoothly. You will perform heavy manual labor and use a variety of snow removal equipment to clear snow from sidewalks, parking lots, emergency exits, field lights, and signs. Additional duties include washing equipment, general clean-up, and other assigned tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Remove snow from sidewalks, parking lots, emergency exits, field lights, and signs using shovels and snow removal equipment.
  • Perform heavy manual labor, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs.
  • Wash equipment and assist with general clean-up tasks.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Valid state-issued driver’s license.
  • Ability to work outdoors in severe and varying weather conditions for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor, including shoveling, lifting, and carrying for extended periods.
  • Ability to pass a criminal and employment background check.
  • Ability to pass a physical examination.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (desirable).
  • Snow removal experience using a variety of snow removal equipment (desirable).
  • Experience operating a lawn tractor with plow, broom, and blower attachments (desirable).
  • Experience using a walk-behind snow thrower (desirable).
  • Experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, parks maintenance, or commercial property maintenance (desirable).

Pay

Hourly rate: $25.20 (pending Commission approval).

Schedule

Positions may be assigned to one of the following shifts:

  • Day: 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., Monday - Friday
  • Afternoon: 2:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m., Monday - Friday
  • Night: 10:00 p.m. - 6:30 a.m., Sunday - Thursday
  • Weekend: 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., Saturday - Wednesday

Other Information

Motor Vehicle Record Evaluation Guideline: Safe driving habits are critical for this role. A contingent offer of employment may be withdrawn if the motor vehicle record contains:

  • Any major violation within the past three years (e.g., DUI, reckless driving, fleeing a police officer).
  • Three or more minor moving violations within the last three years (e.g., speeding, failure to stop at a stop sign, failure to yield).
  • Any pending criminal matter for a serious traffic offense (evaluated case-by-case).

Examples of violations:

  • Felony: Criminal vehicular operations resulting in injury or death, fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle resulting in injury or death.
  • Gross Misdemeanor: Fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, subsequent DWI violations within five or ten years.
  • Misdemeanor: Driving Under the Influence (DUI), Driving After Suspension/Revocation (DAS/DAR), reckless/careless driving, no insurance.
  • Petty Misdemeanor: Speeding, failing to stop at a stop sign, failure to yield.
