TEMPORARY Roving Invasive Species Technician – Grand Junction, CO

About the role

This is a temporary position (9 months or less) paying $18.00 per hour. Employment starts 04/12/2026 through 10/31/2026.

Responsibilities

• Support the State Invasive Species Program through watercraft inspection & decontamination at various locations throughout Colorado, as needed.
• Inspect boats launching and leaving the reservoir, or at roadside checkpoints with respect to invasive species such as zebra/quagga mussels.
• Provide public outreach on the aquatic invasive species topic by collecting survey information and providing guidance on best practices to prevent the spread of invasive species.
• Attend public events.
• Perform a variety of tasks including: quality control assessment, sampling and monitoring, inventory management, education and outreach, reviewing and editing technical reports, distribution of supplies to field locations, and data entry.
• Report directly to the office at the James M. Robb Corn Lake Section for assignment.
• Support the Program Manager and Invasive Species Specialists by performing a variety of tasks including: quality control assessment, sampling and monitoring, inventory management, education and outreach, reviewing and editing technical reports, distribution of supplies to field locations, and data entry.
• When assistance at watercraft inspection and decontamination sites is not needed, the position will support the Program Manager and Invasive Species Specialists by performing a variety of tasks including: quality control assessment, sampling and monitoring, inventory management, education and outreach, reviewing and editing technical reports, distribution of supplies to field locations, and data entry.
• Work will either be completed independently or in pairs to inspect boats launching and leaving the reservoir, or at roadside checkpoints with respect to invasive species such as zebra/quagga mussels.
• When assistance at watercraft inspection and decontamination sites is not needed, the position will support the Program Manager and Invasive Species Specialists by performing a variety of tasks including: quality control assessment, sampling and monitoring, inventory management, education and outreach, reviewing and editing technical reports, distribution of supplies to field locations, and data entry.
