About the role
The Institute for Compensation Studies (ICS) at Cornell University School of Industrial Relations is seeking a Temporary Research Aide – Field Canvasser to assist with a research study focusing on delivery drivers and workplace inequality. The role involves connecting with delivery workers, building trust through authentic conversation, and inviting them to participate in a research survey. Ideal candidates thrive on face-to-face interaction, care about social and economic justice, and seek hands-on experience in community-based research.
Responsibilities
- Connect with delivery workers in the field to initiate and maintain meaningful conversations
- Build trust and rapport through authentic interactions
- Involve participants in a research survey
- Work in Buffalo, NY and/or Orlando, FL
Requirements
- Effective communication skills to connect authentically with a diverse range of people
- A strong work ethic, reliability, and self-motivation
- Comfort in approaching strangers and conducting one-on-one conversations in outdoor or worksite settings
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods, climb stairs, and work outdoors in varying weather
- Tech proficiency (smartphone, Microsoft Office Suite, data entry app, Google Docs or equivalent)
- Valid driver's license; ability to drive and travel
Qualifications
- Prior canvassing, door-to-door outreach, community organizing, or sales experience
- Experience working with immigrant or working-class communities
- Interest in labor rights, worker advocacy, or social justice
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
Skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency in data entry and Microsoft Office Suite
