About the role
The Temporary Facility Maintenance Technician provides maintenance support for all campus buildings and performs a wide variety of skilled work in the maintenance and repair of university facilities and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Work Order Control – Accurately maintain work requests submitted. Ensure all maintenance is completed accordingly.
- Project Management – Receive and complete projects with little to no supervision beyond basic instruction.
- Preventive Maintenance – Effectively perform preventive maintenance on all plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
- Emergency Management – Classified as essential; respond to all weather and mechanical emergencies during on and off-hour emergencies.
- Air Conditioning Repair and Troubleshooting – Make repairs, troubleshoot, and maintain various air conditioning systems in residence halls and apartments.
- Plumbing – Repair, replace, and troubleshoot various plumbing systems.
- Electrical – Repair, replace, and troubleshoot various electrical systems.
- Miscellaneous Task Management – Maintain a multi-faceted and flexible task management system that allows for constant change.
Requirements
- Graduation from high school or equivalent.
- Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position’s role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
Qualifications
- Knowledge-Technical – Advises staff of specialized grounds maintenance techniques and processes for use in unusual circumstances.
- General knowledge of established trade procedures and techniques, and special applications required in assigned areas.
- Ability to follow a daily work schedule and react to situations requiring minor adjustments to routine.
- Dependability/Attendance – Ability to demonstrate dependability, which requires daily attendance.
- Communication – Conveys information clearly, confidently, and with proper tone.
- Planning/Organizing – Ability to follow the daily work schedule by prioritizing the needs of the organization and implementing procedures to ensure tasks are completed effectively and efficiently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of general procedures of applicable trades/maintenance techniques and develop skills in procedures, techniques, tools, materials and/or equipment appropriate to trade.
