About the role
The Temporary Laboratory and Research Technician position is within the Cornell Soil Health Team of the Soil and Crop Sciences Section in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS). This team focuses on developing soil management strategies to address laboratory-measured soil constraints and improve agricultural systems.
Responsibilities
- Lab analyses
- Weighing soil samples
- Sieving and grinding samples
- Preparing samples for various analyses
- Data entry
- Washing laboratory glassware
- Weighing cans
- Maintaining a clean laboratory
- Adhere to all disease control and laboratory safety protocols and collect lab waste for disposal
- Complete training on lab safety and proper handling of chemicals as required by CALS EHS
Requirements
- A high school diploma and 1+ years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Prior experience in a laboratory setting
- Prior knowledge of safety protocols in a lab setting and proper waste handling
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite – including Word, PowerPoint and Excel and familiarity with Outlook
- Ability to communicate verbally and written with faculty, staff and students
- Attention to detail, ability to repeat light repetitive tasks
Qualifications
- Experience working in a laboratory environment
- Knowledge of soil science or agricultural systems

Pay and Schedule
- This is a five-month temporary, full-time position at 39 hours/week contingent upon available work, funding, and performance
